Izvor Park
Izvor Park () is a public park in central Bucharest ( Sector 5). It is located on the right bank of Dâmbovița and in close proximity to the Palace of the Parliament. it is one of the more recent parks in Romania's capital. History Before its establishment in the 1990s, the area was occupied by Mihai-Vodă Hill, where the Mihai Vodă Monastery and an important archaeological site dating back to the Bronze Age were situated. The Mihai Vodă Monastery, founded by Michael the Brave, was saved from demolition during the communist regime and relocated nearly 300 meters to the east. However, many other structures, including the State Archives Palace and the ruins of Curtea Nouă, were destroyed to make way for the Civic Center development. After the hill was leveled and plans for constructing a large conference and reception hall were abandoned, the area remained an unmaintained open space until the early 1990s when it was transformed into Izvor Park. Ferentari
Ferentari is a neighbourhood located in the 5th Sector of Bucharest, Romania. Etymology The word "Ferentari" comes from the Latin word "Ferentarius" meaning "soldier in the old pedestrian army". Area It is located in the South-South-West of Bucharest at a distance of from the city center. Connections to the city center are relatively poor, because of the limited public transport available (see below) and because of the need to cross areas subject to frequent traffic jams like Chirigiu Square. The borough stretches along Ferentarilor Avenue (Calea Ferentarilor) and the main boundaries are: Sălaj Road (Șoseaua Sălaj) and sometimes Rahovei Avenue (Calea Rahovei) to the South West, the industrial area, the railway and partially Progresului Road (to the South-East and East), and Sălaj Road (to the West). Daniel Florea (born September 19, 1972) is a Romanian lawyer and politician who served as the mayor of Bucharest's Sector 5. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and former member of the Democratic Party (PD), he has represented Călărași County in the Chamber of Deputies since 2012. Early life and education Born in Călărași, he graduated from Nicolae Bălcescu High School (now Barbu Știrbei National College). He then attended the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest from which he graduated in 1995 with the essay "Organized crime - a transnational phenomenon - and its impact on Romanian society". He has attended post-university courses and holds degrees in various other fields: political studies, marketing and management of naval transportation operations, banking and stock markets, national security studies and diplomacy. 2020 Romanian Local Elections
Local elections were held in Romania on 27 September 2020. Initially planned for June 2020, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic led the Government of Romania to postpone the elections to a date no later than 31 December 2020, and extending all the terms of the local offices due to expire on 5 June 2020. The aforementioned decision was deemed unconstitutional, and, in the end, a law was passed that extended the terms of the local officials up to 30 November 2020, and allowed the elections to be called by the Parliament of Romania, Parliament, rather than by the Government, no later than that day. Cristian Victor Popescu Piedone (born 15 February 1963) is a Romanian businessman and politician who served as mayor of Bucharest's Sector 4 from 2008 until 4 November 2015, when he resigned following the Colectiv nightclub fire and the subsequent 2015 Romanian protests and in 2020, he served as the mayor of Sector 5. In present, he is the president of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (Romania). Rahova is a neighbourhood of southwest Bucharest, Romania, situated in Sector 5, west of Dâmbovița River. It is named after the Bulgarian town ''Rahovo'' (today Oryahovo), site of a battle in the Romanian War of Independence. The neighborhood stretches from between Antiaeriană and Drumul Sării Avenues to Panduri Square (in the west), Panduri and 13 Septembrie Streets in the north, George Cosbuc Avenue, Viilor and Sălaj Streets in the east and Bucharest City Limits in the South.
